Queenstown Hill

Queenstown Hill is one of the most popular short hikes in town, offering a rewarding climb to panoramic views over Lake Wakatipu, The Remarkables, and the surrounding ranges. The track is also known as the “Time Walk,” featuring interpretive panels that reflect on the region’s history, land, and people.

Highlights

The track winds through pine forest before opening out onto alpine tussock and grassland. Along the way, you’ll pass the “Basket of Dreams” sculpture, a popular spot to pause and take in the view. The summit (907m) rewards you with sweeping 360-degree views across Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu, and the surrounding mountains.

Getting there

The track starts at a carpark on Belfast Terrace, just a 5-minute drive or 15-minute walk from central Queenstown. The carpark is small, so it’s best to go early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

Need to know

The track is steep in places, but well-formed and suitable for most fitness levels. Carry water and wear good footwear, the climb can feel challenging on hot days.
