Our Lodges

Dedicated to providing you with modern comfort in ancient surroundings, each lodge is fully staffed and offers full lounge and dining facilities serving delicious food for breakfast and dinner, with snacks, and tea and coffee on arrival.

Milford and Routeburn Tracks

Ultimate Hikes owns and maintains 5 lodges across the Milford and Routeburn Tracks. These are fully staffed and provide all the conveniences of modern living in these remote landscapes.

Inaccessible by road, all supplies are flown in by helicopter, and rubbish is flown out. Supply day is once a week to avoid disruption and includes staff movements, and maintenance and repair teams coming in to make repairs.

Accommodation on Track

Accommodation is in quad rooms or private rooms.  The quad rooms sleep 4 people and are either bunk beds or single beds.  Pillows and duvets are provided but a sleep sheet must be carried between lodges  The private rooms have a double bed or two single beds.  They have all linen provided and have ensuite bathrooms.

 

Bathrooms

Quad rooms have shared bathrooms.  They all have flush toilets and hot running water.  Some bathrooms on the Milford Track are unisex, but they are all cubicled.  The bathrooms on the Greenstone and Routeburn are single sex.  Towels are provided in Quad rooms.  Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hairdryers are also available in all bathrooms.

Private rooms have ensuite bathrooms with a shower, toilet and vanity.  Towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hairdryers are provided.

Lounge and dining

All our lodges have a warm and friendly lounge and dining area. Tea and coffee is always available along with games and some reading material. The bar opens in the late afternoon to purchase wine, beer or soft drinks and dinner is served in the dining area each evening. Briefings are also held here .

Greenstone Track Lodges

Steele Creek Lodge and McKellar Lodge on the Greenstone Tracks are staffed by our guides and provide a more rustic experience.  Lounge and kitchen is open planned and accommodation is in dorimitory style rooms on the first night and in bunkrooms sleeping 4 people at McKellar Lodge where you will spend two nights.

Steele Creek Lodge is solar powered and so doesn't have a drying room.

All other services are fully catered with alcohol available to purchase and a choice of main courses.

 

Mitre Peak Lodge

Mitre Peak Lodge is situated in Milford Sound.  Originally a hotel, it is set in a prime location with majestic views of Mitre Peak.  All the rooms at the Lodge are twin share with ensuite with baths and showers.  

Walkers in multishare will be asked who they wish to room if more than two people on the booking or allocated a roommate if travelling solo.
